MOTIVATION
Treat your staff fairly!
What really motivates you at work? As the quest for the ultimate incentive continues, employers could do a lot worse than apply one simple technique: treat staff fairly. That’ s the simple message from an online poll by motivation and incentives specialists Capital Incentives.
Being fairly treated and valued was voted the most important factor motivating staff by the 1,780 people completing the questionnaire, ahead of good current pay/salary, with good pay prospects and job security in their wake.
Staff work harder when they are valued
Graham Povey, managing director of Capital Incentives, said: Most people automatically presume that good pay and promotions are what motivates people at work. These results prove that this is not always true. Company bosses need to be aware that their staff respond better and therefore work harder when they feel they are valued and respected as employees.
It seems that the stark reality is that there is more to motivation than putting additional cash on the table. Says Povey: Successful businesses are not just about good pay. Creating a happy and productive work environment is, I believe, far more important.
