Tackling equal pay at Lloyds TSB

Lloyds TSB's equal pay audit revealed not only gaps between men and women doing the same job, but also gaps between men and other men, and women earning more than other women. A recent issue of IDS Diversity at Work looks at the how the company decided to tackle equal pay by transforming its pay structure.

This five-page case-study article:

  • looks at the detailed pilot audits undertaken by Lloyds TSB in three areas of the business
  • examines the results of the audits -- in particular, the finding that many of the pay gaps appeared to be related to length of service
  • details the decision to create a clear, open and transparent pay structure that balanced paying for performance with equal pay principles -- rather than, say, assess the justification of individual pay gaps and make individual salary adjustments.
