Pitfalls of recognition schemes laid bare

Why are all too many of your dazzling recognition creations not a resounding success in the context of generating better performance and commitment? A new US study by Workforce Management catalogues some common failings.

So many of these lavish recognition and incentive programmes, it seems, are ill-thought out. Additionally, a more diverse workforce presents challenges for those responsible for revamping long-standing schemes. What's more, as Eve Tahmincioglu, the author of the report, explains: "In a time of lay-offs and outsourcing, recognition and reward programmes in general might not be the best remedies for motivating the rank and file. Management experts say that such programmes could look like empty attempts to appease workers and end up backfiring."
