Pay settlements static at beginning of 2016 – XpertHR

The first pay awards made in 2016 indicate that employees are in for more of the same this year when it comes to pay increases. The median pay settlement so far this year is 2%, recent figures from XpertHR suggest. These latest figures are in line with the pattern of awards over 2015 as a whole, when the median based on a sample of 1,255 basic pay awards stood at 2%. A key issue for employers this year will be the introduction of the National Living Wage for some groups from 1 April 2016 and research from XpertHR suggests that just under half of UK employers will be affected, and a median of 11% of their workforce entitled to a pay rise.

XpertHR pay and benefits editor Sheila Attwood said:

‘Employers are not showing any signs of wanting or needing to award higher pay rises in 2016. Many will be affected by the introduction of the national living wage in April and will have to find ways to fund bringing all eligible employees up to the new minimum rate.’
