MSDs account for 31% of all PMI claims – Aon Employee Benefits

The highest proportion of all private medical insurance claims relate to musculoskeletal issues (MSDs), and are almost double those for cancer-related illness, according to an analysis of client data by Aon Employee Benefits. Just over 30% of claims related to MSDs, compared with 15% relating to cancer, 4% for mental health disorders and 4% for urology.

Martha How, principal at Aon, said:

‘The dominance of musculoskeletal problems leading to PMI claims has been well-established for at least the last five years, and this may well reflect the national problems with obesity, lack of exercise and generally unhealthy lifestyles.’
