Mandatory gender pay gap reporting to extend to public sector

The government is to extend mandatory gender pay gap reporting to organisations in the public sector and has published a consultation document on how this should be implemented. The approach in the public sector will be based on that agreed for private and voluntary sector organisations.

In addition to the main median and mean gender pay gap calculations, public sector authorities will also have to publish the gap between the mean and median bonus payments of men and women employees. This means they will have to take into account the full distribution of bonuses paid so that the median will show any difference at the mid-point in the range between men and women.
