Inquiry into sex and pay discrimination in the finance sector

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has announced that it is carrying out an inquiry into sex discrimination in the finance sector because of evidence of a very large gender pay gap in this sector.

Research is currently under way to provide a clearer picture of the nature of inequality in finance. This will help identify the key issues and the worst performing parts of the sector in terms of sex discrimination.

Final terms of reference will be published in March 2009 when the Commission will begin to formally gather evidence.
