REWARDING PERFORMANCE

IES looks at performance pay

A new report by the Institute for Employment Studies critically examines why organisations choose to introduce team, skill or competency based pay.

What you will find in this report

The 87-page IES report comprises three research papers, each of which considers what benefits employers have found and the difficulties they have faced in operating three different types of performance pay:

  • team pay
  • skill-based pay
  • competence-related pay.

IES looks at the evidence of whether many organisations are operating such remuneration tools, reviews the mechanics of how organisations operate these programmes and the sort of design decisions they have to make.

An introductory chapter examines the origins and thinking behind "new pay".
