Gender pay gap ‘with us for a lifetime’ – Fawcett Society

The gender pay gap will be ‘with us for a lifetime’ unless there is concerted action on the part of employers and government to close it, according to Sam Smethers, Chief Executive of the Fawcett Society. The Society has commissioned a poll of 2,000 people which finds that 77% of women agree that it is the responsibility of businesses and employers to reduce the pay gap.

Speaking at its gender pay gap conference on 12 October 2016, Smethers said:

‘These findings show that the majority of women are going to be looking for employers who are taking action to address it. It is less having a gap that matters and more what you are going to do about it.’
