Flexible working in technology – My Family Care

Four out of five employees in the tech industry work flexibly and 88% see the ability to work in this way as the most valuable employee benefit they receive, above private health insurance, bonuses and enhanced pension provision. Half of employees in the sector say they would rather have flexible working than a 10% pay rise, according to the research from My Family Care, provider of family-friendly employer solutions, and recruitment experts, Hydrogen. However, a fifth of the employees in the research say they are not confident about broaching the topic of flexible working with their employer.

Karen Rudich, COO of online portal, Bank in the Box, said:

‘Flexible working in tech is a no brainer. As we are often computer based, we’re very comfortable communicating via email or Skype which means that our teams can work exactly where they want so long as they get the job done.’
The flexible working research was undertaken in July 2016 by Atomik Research on behalf of My Family Care and Hydrogen and their report is entitled, ‘Flexible and Family Friendly Working: A competitive advantage for organisations. UK sector snapshot: Technology’. This was an evaluation of answers from 265 technology professionals based in the UK. This in turn was part of a wider report entitled ‘The Competitive Advantage of Flexible and Family Friendly Working’ – an evaluation of answers from 1,587 employees based in the UK and 310 employers (HR specialists) in the UK.
