Executive pay: putting principles into practice

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has published further guidance on its “Principles of executive remuneration” to help HR directors and remuneration committees put the principles into action.

The CIPD says: “Responding to these key questions can support an organisation through the process of developing its approach to executive reward. Similarly, if an organisation struggles to answer one of the questions, that may identify where further work could be needed before the appropriate approach to executive pay can be found."

It adds: “The questions are intended to provoke good-quality thinking and decision-making around reward for executives. There is no ‘tick-box’ approach to this complex issue that will meet the needs of every organisation. Some of the questions may not be relevant to smaller, public or voluntary organisations.”
