FLEXIBLE WORKING

Employees to benefit from summer hours

Starting this month, Kellogg’s UK office employees will benefit from Friday afternoons off during summer months.

The “summer hours” scheme, now in its fifth year, encourages employees to spend more time with their families during the summer holidays.

The initiative, which started on 9 May, means that everyone finishes work at 12 noon on a Friday between May and September in order to benefit from the extra leisure or family time. Employees must have completed a full week’s hours by 1pm on Friday in order to benefit from summer hours.

%ADVERT%

A survey of Kellogg’s employees shows that:

  • 70% used the scheme regularly last year.

  • Staff felt the benefits were that they could spend extra time with their kids (32%) and 69% used it to have long weekends away during the summer months.

  • The scheme has also helped with motivation as 82% of employees felt happier in their jobs because of it.

Kellogg’s offers employees a range of choices to create an individual work-life balance that works for them. These include part-time working, flexible working hours for all employees, summer hours, career breaks, home working and a flexible benefits scheme.

A final word

“Summer Hours is a great scheme that all of our employees, including those without a family, benefit from and feedback shows that it helps make our company a great place to work. Flexible working is something we take very seriously at Kellogg’s and this is part of a package that we offer to ensure that we provide work-life balance opportunities to all employees.” - Jacqueline Grainger, Kellogg’s UK HR director.
