Discrimination contributes to gender pay gap

Two-thirds of the wage gap between men and women is due to "unobservable factors" such as discrimination and has nothing to do with lower skills or productivity, finds a new government study.

Despite more than 30 years of equal pay legislation, the report by the Office for National Statistics reveals that prejudice still means women are taking home smaller pay packets than men doing the same job.
