Complinet implements self-service benefits

Complinet, a publisher of regulatory information and provider of compliance services to the financial services industry, has implemented a new self-service employee benefit solution.

The company appointed benefits specialists thomsons online benefits to "rebroke" all of its benefits and then implement Perquisite, thomsons' online employee self-service solution for its UK employees.

"We wanted to ensure that our employees were aware of all the benefits that they received and their value," says Sheena McLullich, head of human resources at Complinet. "Previously promoting and keeping employees up-to-date with their benefits package required constant communication on behalf of the HR team. By implementing self-service technology we have been able to give employees control over their own benefits and the ability to get all the information they need 24/7 without the need to contact HR."

As a predominantly internet-based business, Complinet wanted to move "all employee-led HR and benefits transactions onto a self-service basis". McLullich calls this a "logical step" which fitted with the corporate strategy.

The benefits offered to Complinet employees include: group personal pension scheme, private medical insurance, life assurance, permanent health insurance, discounted gym membership and a selection of voluntary benefits.

Moving online

During the implementation, thomsons carried out a series of group presentations and individual one-to-one meetings with employees to explain how to enrol into their benefits package and to enable them to ask any questions.

Complinet says its experience of moving benefits online was "very positive". The move boosted the take up of the pension scheme amongst employees by 20% and encouraged the majority of employees to take advantage of the private medical insurance on offer.

McLullich reckons that all the feedback received from employees has been extremely positive and there has been a reduction in the administrative burden. "As an HR team it has reduced, if not eliminated, our administration and the number of queries we receive from staff about benefits. This enables us to manage our time much more effectively and to concentrate on adding value to the business," she says.

Over the next 12 months Complinet is planning to continue to enhance its benefits offering by:

  • extending the online self-service platform to employees based in New York
  • adding more voluntary benefits
  • looking at the possibility of implementing flexible benefits.
