JOB EVALUATION
CIPD updates guidance on job evaluation
“Job evaluation is an evaluation of the role, not the person doing it and any system should be fair, understood by and communicated to employees. It should be transparent, and reviewed regularly to ensure business needs continue to be met.” This is the view expressed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in its recently-updated factsheet on job evaluation.

Designed to be an introductory tool, the six-page guide covers areas including:
What is job evaluation?
When to use it?
Types of job evaluation.
Designing job evaluation schemes.
Implementation.
Other factors to consider.
The type of scheme chosen will depend on the organisation’s needs, says the CIPD, with any staff making decisions on job roles requiring training in the chosen system.
It adds that involving employees in the process can increase their commitment and engagement with the organisation, but warns that they must remain impartial at all stages.
