Aon study looks at employee engagement and high performance

Employee engagement is linked to higher operating income for the organisation, according to the latest survey of global engagement from Aon. However, the survey suggests that employees’ work experience worsened by almost 30% last year, with levels of a sense of autonomy and accomplishment, people focus and customer focus all falling.

Aon comments that many organisations are having a hard time aligning employee engagement strategies with those of the business. The top drivers of engagement are: employee growth opportunities, the organisation’s reputation, pay, perception of a strong employee value proposition and organisational innovation.

Dr. Ken Oehler, Aon Hewitt's global engagement practice leader, said:

‘There has been significant emphasis on increasing engagement over the last several years, but many organisations are overly focused on diagnostics and not on the holistic solutions that address the specific challenges they are facing. The best way to rapidly address low engagement levels is to “fix the basics” in areas like safety or the systems, processes and resources needed to get work done. Beyond these areas, top organisations will create a culture of engagement by focusing on performance, growth and engaging leadership.’
