6.5 million ‘unhappy at work’, says Perkbox

Around 30% of UK workers, 6.5 million people, would not describe themselves as happy at work and would move jobs for better benefits, according to benefits platform, Perkbox. Almost 70% of the 1,072 adults surveyed by the company believe that company perks and benefits are important to their overall happiness at work and 26% rate a lack of reward and recognition for good work as their number one grievance at work.

Despite this, 53% of 100 UK companies responding to a separate survey do not formally recognise outstanding employees on a regular basis, Perkbox argues. In London, nearly half of workers would switch to a job that offered better benefits.

Saurav Chopra, CEO and founder at Perkbox, said:

‘A single disengaged worker, irrespective of sector, can cost a business over £3,000 annually in sick leave, lost productivity, training and recruitment.’
